As part of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities’ (MOTA) plan to upgrade the existing King Abdullah II Park in Ma’an, a new Handicrafts Training Center & Traditional Market is constructed within the Park. The design focuses on the development of a series of traditional, environmentally friendly buildings that serves as a center for training and a marketplace for tourism products. The center, which consists of four separate units, includes an independent operator, a productive kitchen, an administration building and a service building.

The project aims to create training opportunities for the people of the governorate, by ensuring that this legacy of handicrafts remains, as well as opening the way for displaying and marketing these products through periodic exhibitions inside the center. This reflects positively on providing many job opportunities for the people of the region, and improving the income of local associations.

The interest in handicrafts and heritage is an important aspect of preserving the national identity and the historical and cultural heritage of Ma'an city. This project aims to bring about a qualitative leap for the city, by making it a center for traditional crafts and handicrafts which leads to a prominent destination for the tourism on the one hand, and a gathering of craftsmen on the other hand.
