In the heart of Mexico City, there is one of the neighborhoods with the most history, tradition and antiquity, the San Rafael neighborhood, characterized by its famous theaters, traditional restaurants, green areas and a large number of buildings classified by cultural heritage, and that with its strategic location close to the main avenues of greater economic power and growth such as Paseo de la Reforma, have made this traditional neighborhood one of the fastest growing neighborhoods in the coming years, where more and more that trade informal begins to organize itself, those forgotten monuments begin to regain strength, and those old mansions begin to shine even more.
That is why we decided to reconfigure and intervene one of the key neighborhoods in Mexico City and forgotten during the 20th century. The main objective was to design a building that, due to its current configuration, works within the dynamics of the city.We seek to intervene in a neighborhood that has survived time, where as a user you identify yourself through their stories; respecting the neighborhood and the context studying it and understanding what was its history and function.
Cova 07 is a contemporary proposal in terms of its use; in the formal part, it uses current materials with total respect for space, at the same time being discreet; We do not try to make the neighborhood and the user interpret it as a massive intervention or that it deteriorates the essence of the neighborhood. It is a very well studied balance, we adapt it to current needs but understanding the importance of preserving the context where it is located, it is a contemporary home that dialogues with community life.
Revalue the areas and promote the economic activity of the neighborhoods, living towards the interior spaces
The project proposes a building of 14 homes, all with spaces integrated into the context, seeking that all interior spaces find that specific view or connection to the outside, without forgetting the past, taking advantage of natural lighting to reach all spaces, the use of warm finishes, with a mixture of apparent materials, makes a pleasant space to inhabit. The connectivity between the houses, linked by exterior bridges, imitating the concept of those old neighborhoods, where people interacted, lived together and knew each other, is today a benchmark in making architecture, but in these times of physical distancing, finding and retake that harmony that characterized our old buildings, which gave an added value to society, the power to achieve that relationship between users. Retaking that Architecture that showed a simplicity of elements on the facade, achieving harmony between them, adapting to the immediate context, but above all to the site in general, but more importantly, surprising locals and strangers, inside, that, crossing the designated spaces for the common and social areas, unexpectedly arriving at a large central patio, where privacy becomes a paradigm, where coexistence takes up its history, this large central patio that coexists with the 14 houses, with common areas, with terraces and with entrances, neighborhood architecture.
